Happy New Year!

Hello lovely reader!

A happy new year to you!

It has been a rocky one, but hopefully this year is a good one to you.  I am making plans on what to make in the coming weeks, and a few topics to discuss on this blog.

If there is anything in particular you would like me to discuss, or try my hand at, let me know in the comments or send me a message.  But while we’re on the topic of the new year, let’s talk about resolutions for a little bit.

Just because the new year has come, doesn’t mean you have to change.  Don’t make a new years resolution.  I know, I’m saying something crazy to you.  But hear me out.  If you want REAL lasting change, make yourself small goals.  “This week, I will do X” substituting X for anything.  “This week, I will crochet,” “This week, I will read this book,” “This week, I will drink more water,” etc.

Break down your weekly goals, into daily ones. To make sure you crochet this week, look at your schedule and see where you can fit in some crochet time. Do one row per day.  To read your book, do the same, take it with you and read a page on your lunch break, or after your shower, etc.  To drink more water, make it a point to drink a cup of water today. Or two cups.  Make a little checklist “I drank 1 cup of water today,” Check.

Tiny goals.  Don’t try and create a whole sweater in a week, read an entire book series in a week, drink a gallon of water in a day, and there’s certainly no need to lose 10 pounds in a week.  That’s unhealthy and dangerous.  If you want to lose weight, make your goal small.  Do some at home exercises, like lunges, jumping jacks, push ups, sit ups, etc. Do them 2 times this week. Do them 3 time next week.  Do them 4 times the week after that.

Tiny goals.  Tiny goals, help you reach what you really want.  Make sure what you want to do, fits into your schedule, if it doesn’t, see where you can make it fit, see what you can get rid of from your life.

From a person who struggles, I understand how overwhelming it can get.  Do a tiny thing at a time, and before you know it you will be doing it every day.

My goal for this week is to get organized.  I’m not telling you so I can be accountable, I’m telling you because my bedroom is a literal mess.  I have clothes from Christmas laying around, books and papers and candles all stacked on my coffee table, and sketchbooks and journals all up in there as well.

Do I have my shit together? No.  But I am not the type of person to make a resolution at the new year.  I never have and never will.  I make little tiny goals, and if I don’t get to do it this week, I try again next week.  That’s all life is about.  Doing what you can at the moment, and moving on or trying again.

Don’t be so hard on yourself.  You’re a great person.  Go drink a small cup of water and reward your body for being you.

See you next week!

Quirkily yours,
The Quirky Digest
